School Safety Scores Are Verified
School safety scores are verified as a result of schools completing our comprehensive 4-Level Safety Standard℠ assessment.
Any U.S. school can begin the safety assessment process—but only those that complete the full 4-level framework earn a verified baseline score, demonstrating their commitment to measurable, continuous safety improvement.
The Dynamic Safety Score℠ (DSS)
Every school receives a Dynamic Safety Score℠ (DSS) that measures its safety across 94 distinct Safety Zones℠.
Each zone is individually scored and combined into an overall standardized rating.
The DSS equips safety teams, administrators, and stakeholders with actionable data for table-top discussions, progress tracking, strategic resource allocation, and for year-round safety score improvements.
Districts use these standardized scores to allocate resources equitably, track progress consistently, and implement safety improvements that benefit every campus.
Why a Standardized Score Matters
The Dynamic Safety Score℠ gives every school—and every community—a common metric for safety. It transforms a complex challenge into a clear, trackable number.
Our 4-Level Safety Standard℠ provides the consistent, expert-developed framework.
Your school’s DSS is the live result. Together, they create a system where schools can baseline their safety, measure progress, and direct resources with precision—turning good intentions into repeatable, accountable results.
For donors, this means your contribution supports a verified system where impact isn’t just hoped for—it’s scored, tracked, and proven.

The National Safety Infrastructure for K–12 Schools
Protecting Our Students is a nonprofit and a national authority on K–12 school protection. Moving beyond advocacy, we have engineered a foundational safety scoring infrastructure that allows schools to assess, measure, and continuously improve safety in real time.
This unified system establishes and sustains a 4-Level Safety Standard℠—providing a consistent, measurable baseline of protection for all 50 million students nationwide.
We are not asking schools to “do better.” We have built the infrastructure that makes safety measurable, comparable, and improvable—every day, in every school.
Our Approach
School safety cannot rely on one-time plans or reactive compliance checklists.
Our approach is built on assessment, scoring, reporting, and continuous improvement—transforming safety from paperwork into an operational system.
Through our proprietary frameworks—4-Level Safety Assessments, 94-Point Safety Zones, and the Dynamic Safety Score (DSS)—schools gain a clear, standardized understanding of where they are, where risks exist, and what actions matter most.
The SafeSchool REPORT℠ delivers real-time, actionable insight for administrators, staff, parents, and supporters—making safety transparent, trackable, and accountable.
Why This Works
Our model combines a national safety standard with real-time intelligence—something no traditional program, policy binder, or compliance checklist can provide.
Schools and districts gain a standardized framework that aligns safety practices across campuses while clearly identifying risks, gaps, and areas requiring attention. Progress is scored and measured continuously throughout the year, allowing leaders to move beyond assumptions and understand actual readiness in real time.
Most importantly, safety becomes transparent. Administrators, families, community stakeholders, and donors can see how schools are performing, where improvements are being made, and how safety evolves over time. This shared visibility builds trust, accountability, and confidence across the entire school community.
Safety is no longer a static paper document reviewed once a year. It becomes a living, measurable scoring system—continuously assessed, clearly understood, and actively improved.
Take Action
Every school can begin improving safety today.
Request a free safety assessment and get a custom readiness overview—no forms, no paperwork, no obligation—just a clear picture of your school’s safety.
By taking this step, your school joins a growing national network committed to measurable improvement, accountability, and safer learning environments for every student.
The Proprietary System Standardizes & Scores School Safety
Our 4-Level Assessment℠ audits 94 Safety Zones℠ to generate a Dynamic Safety Score℠—providing every school with a definitive SafeSchool REPORT℠ and a roadmap for improvement.

“For the first time, we could actually see our school safety posture — not just talk about it. The assessments, scoring, and reports gave us clarity on where we were strong and where we needed to improve. Protecting Our Students helped us move from assumptions to action.” — K-12 School Principal, Parkway School District
“What sets this framework apart is standardization. Schools and law enforcement are finally working from the same playbook. The assessments and safety scores make coordination clearer, faster, and more effective — especially when it matters most.” — Law Enforcement Partner, Grandview School District
